Both Bulldog basketball teams had good weekends in Newcastle in the 3A East Regional Tournament.
Both the Bulldogs and the Lady Bulldogs had up and down weekends in the 3A East Regional Tournament in Newcastle, but they both ultimately accomplished their goal. Both the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs did enough to qualify for the 3A State Tournament in Casper this coming weekend.

The Bulldogs started their tournament off right with a 47-31 win over the host team Newcastle on Thursday. That led them to advance to the semifinal game against Torrington the following night. After beating Torrington three times during the regular season, Torrington outplayed them on Thursday night to send the Bulldogs into the consolation bracket. The score of that game was 45-39. Saturday morning the Bulldogs had to pick up a win to advance to the state tournament and they didn't have a problem against Burns. The final of that game was 64-26. That sent the boys into the 3rd/4th place game on Saturday afternoon. They got the win there too. The final of that game was Wheatland 61, Buffalo 51. So the Bulldogs took 3rd place in the 3A East Regional tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs didn't start the tournament how they wanted to on Thursday. They lost to the host team Newcastle by a final of 53-50. That sent them down to the consolation side of the bracket and gave them the early game on Friday morning against Buffalo. They picked up the win over the Lady Bison by the final of 44-34. After that win the Lady Bulldogs needed one more victory to punch their ticket to the state tournament. They did that with a win over Torrington in the loser-out game on Saturday morning. The final of the game was 46-39. That win also sent them the the 3rd/4th place game Saturday afternoon where they faced the Newcastle Lady Doggies again. They also lost to Newcastle again. The final there was Wheatland 37, Newcastle 43. So, the Lady Bulldogs finished their tournament this past weekend with a 4th place, that's good enough to make the state tournament in Casper.

The 3A and 4A State tournaments will take place in Casper this coming weekend and both Wheatland teams will be competing. The Lady Bulldogs will play Mountain View coming up on Thursday night. That game will get going at 6PM. Then the Bulldogs will play Lander coming up on Thursday night immediately following the Lady Bulldog game. That game will start at approximately 7:30 PM. We'll be covering both of those games on 101.7 KZEW-FM and on WheatlandRadio.com.
