Last week was a rough way to close out the fall sports season for Wheatland High School, but that's what happened anyway. In football on Friday the Bulldogs traveled to Mountain View for a tough match up in the first round of the 2A State Football Playoffs. The Bulldogs barely squeaked in as the final seed in the bracket and they had to travel across the state to play a #1 ranked Mountain View team. The Bulldogs struggled early on and Mountain View didn't. At halftime it was 72-0 in favor of Mountain View. With the running clock and some good sportsmanship, the score didn't get any worse. 72-0 was the final of the game.
In volleyball the outcome wasn't much better. They traveled to Buffalo for the 3A regional volleyball tournament and they played two matches, lost two matches, and their season is over. They lost their first match against Douglas on Friday three games to none with set scores of 10-25, 8-25, and 14-25. Then on Saturday morning they lost their match to Torrington three games to none with set scores of 15-25, 23-25, and 11-25.
So, with that the Volleyball and Football seasons are over. Next up is the winter sports season for Wheatland High School. Wrestling will start practice soon and their first match will be December 13th for a tournament in Cheyenne. As for the basketball team, their season will start on December 12th in Burns for a tournament there.
